My name is Christine. I’m from Stockholm, Sweden and have been living in Australia for about three years. The first time around was back in February 2015 when I did an exchange semester at UWA – back then I had no idea I were to live here a year later!
I moved to Perth after having met my Aussie partner. Even though we met when skiing up in Åre, we choose our moments in the snow and cold carefully and didn’t have to think twice about the move down under when the temptation of a sunnier climate and white beaches grew bigger.
My parents absolutely love Australia and have been over quite a few times. Fortunately for me, this means I’ve had plenty of opportunities to travel and experience the country and what it has to offer with my family. The strangest place we’ve visited must be the Stonehenge replica they’ve spent millions of dollars building down in Esperance. I do believe our best trip yet was the one to Hamilton Island out in the Whitsundays however. Being from Sweden, that place is magical (if you are into the whole exotic island theme).
Obviously quite biased, my favourite destination in Australia is Perth. As much as I love the liveliness of Melbourne and Sydney, I have adapted to the laid-back culture in Perth and feel very privileged to call this my home away from home.
I joined the Swedish Club committee in August 2016 just a few months after moving over from Sweden. Being new to Perth I thought joining the committee would be a great way to make new friends and expand my social network and I must say I’ve had a lot of fun since! The yabby parties are definitely an event I refuse to miss out on, they’re always a lot of fun.
I hope you feel like you know me a bit better after reading this post. All the best, and I hope to catch you at one of our events!
